Honoring the Past, Writing the Future
We are all just visitors on a journey, fortunate to play a small part in the long story of Wambolts Cabins. It’s a story that began in 1899 with Bud Wambolt, who carved out a life in these woods, building a retreat that would welcome generations of families seeking adventure, rest, and connection. It’s a story that continued with the Mauer family, who kept the cabins alive with hard work and heart, and later with those who saw Wambolts as more than a business—but as a legacy worth protecting.
Today, it is our privilege to be the caretakers of this place, to walk the same trails and steward these cabins with the same respect and love as those who came before us. We didn’t build Wambolts, and we won’t be the last to care for it. But while we are here, we hope to make our part of the journey count.
Our recent social media post is a tribute to that journey—a glimpse into Wambolts’ past and present, a reminder that while the faces may change, the spirit remains the same.
Help Us Write the Next Chapter
To ensure that every guest who walks through these doors understands the deep history of Wambolts, we are writing a book to keep in every cabin—a collection of the history, stories, and transformations that have shaped this special place. This book will be a bridge between the past and the present, a way for every new Wambolter to feel connected to those who came before them.
But history isn’t just something written—it’s something lived. That’s where you come in. We invite you to be part of this next chapter. If you have memories, photos, or stories of your time at Wambolts Cabins, we would love to include them in this living history. Whether your family has been coming for generations or you just discovered this hidden gem, your experiences are part of what makes Wambolts timeless.

Gratitude for the Journey
As we reflect on the history of Wambolts, we are filled with gratitude—not just for the land and the cabins, but for the people. For every guest who has ever called this place home for a week or a summer. For those who have kept its traditions alive. For the chance to play our small role in something bigger than ourselves.
We do not take this responsibility lightly, and we know that someday, it will be someone else’s turn. But for now, we are here, tending to the cabins, welcoming new and old friends, and making sure this place is ready for those who will come after us.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Thank you for sharing your stories. Thank you for loving Wambolts as much as we do.
Let’s keep this story going—together.
